Most of the filtered water bottles in our list fall within the same price range. Brita makes this unit relatively cheaper than the others yet offering more than the others.
The Brita Hard Sided filtered water bottle is designed to withstand rough handling, hence the name “Hard Sided”. We tossed it (full of water) on a cemented ground. It didn’t break; it only had a few scratches.

Benefits of using a filtered water bottle
Before your friend tells you 9 reasons why he thinks buying a water bottle is a wrong idea, we’d like to share with you some benefits you’ll derive when you use a water bottle, a filtered water bottle at that.
Having a filtered water bottle is a great way to save costs on buying bottled water. Since the filters in these water bottles are of high quality, they eliminate the contaminants in your water thereby leaving you with clean water to drink.
Helps Protect The Environment
The amount of carbon materials in the environment has increased significantly in recent times. And plastic which is a chief raw material for making bottled water is a leading pollutant.
After drinking bottled water, most people dispose of the container. This leads to a slow and gradual build-up of plastic materials in the environment.
However, filtered water bottles aren’t the type of water bottles you’d throw away like that. The fact that you can get clean drinking water from it makes it worth owning and keeping.
It’s reusable and refillable. Thus, you don’t need to toss it into the trash can except you’re richer than Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.
It offers convenience
Often times, we are so engrossed with work that we can’t get up to walk over to the water dispenser and drink water. When we eventually do, there are no cups or cold water left in the water dispenser because a lot of clients visited the office today.
This means you’re going to have to find somewhere else to buy bottled water.
A personal filtered water bottle offers you convenience. You don’t have to leave that work you’re doing because you want to find drinking water. Simply open your bag, take out your filtered water bottle and drink clean water.
No need for water tablets
It’s no news that there are tablets you toss into your water to make it clean. However, some of these tablets require that you wait for some time before you can drink the water. What happens when you run out of the tablets?
A filtered water bottle doesn’t need any tablets to give you clean water. In fact, there are filtered water bottles that have a four-stage water filter. It’s true that the water flow rate may not be fast, however, water contaminants won’t have the effrontery nor the audacity to pass through the filters in your filtered water bottles.
Buying A Filtered Water Bottle: What You Should Consider
The introduction of water filters has helped to greatly reduce our intake of contaminated water. And it has greatly helped us to take water along with us irrespective of where we’re going to.
Whether you’re going to the office, going to work on an offshore oil rig, going camping or simply stuck in traffic, a water bottle by your side or in your backpack will go a long way to keep you hydrated.
In other to keep drinking clean water, researchers developed a new type of water bottle. It’s called a filtered water bottle, that is, a water bottle with an internal water filter.
Before you make that important purchase, you should read this section of the article slowly. Let’s start by telling you how a filtered water bottle works.
There are two types of filtered water bottles. One of them is designed to filter water as the water comes into the water bottle. The other type is designed to filter water as you drink it.
This is simply how a filtered water bottle works. In fact, it makes the filtered water bottle akin to a pocket water filtration system.
The second type of filtered water bottle is the most popular as it is easier to use and refill. All the water bottles we reviewed are the second type.
The other things you should consider include the following.
Filter Stages and Micron Size
Most of the filtered water bottles have a one stage water filter. This means the water is only filtered once as it enters or leaves the water bottle. It’s effective, but not as concise as a 2 stage filter. A two-stage filter filters the water twice as the water enters or leaves the water bottle. A contaminated water source needs a two or four stage system although a one-stage system can still serve the same purpose.
Also, take note of the micron size of the water bottle. You’ll find water bottles with filter ratings of about 0.01 and 0.2 as the case may be. Both micron sizes are effective.
Where do you intend to use the water bottle? In the office, for traveling, hiking, camping or in the gym? Knowing the purpose for which you are buying one is important as it greatly influences the water bottle you’ll buy.
A 23 oz. water bottle holds a considerable amount of water but not as much as a 34 oz. water bottle. If you’re going to use the water bottle in an area that requires more water, opt for a water bottle with a higher capacity.
An increase in the capacity increases the general weight of the water container. Water bottles with 13 – 16 ounces fall in the small capacity category. On the other hand, medium capacity ranges from 18 – 25 ounces while 25 – 64 ounces is for large capacity.
Water Bottle Material
Make sure the water bottle you’re about to buy has a BPA free rating. All the filtered water bottles we reviewed on this list are BPA free.
Additionally, the water bottle should be strong enough to withstand several falls. A water bottle with a tough body will last for a long time.
It should have a decent water flow rate; it should be in the neighborhood of 550ml/min.
Note that straw size and the number of filters can slow down the water flow rate.
Buy a water bottle that won’t stress you when you want to remove the filters. Most filtered water bottles exceed the 40-gallon filter lifespan. During the course of the review, we came across some models with a 250-gallon lifespan.
The filter should be relatively cheap, readily available, and easy to place and remove.
There are two categories of filters available; the carbon filters and the ultraviolet filter. The carbon filter water bottles are more common than the latter.
Buy More Than One
We advise that you buy more than one filtered water bottle with different sizes and usage. One for sports, one for traveling and another for hiking. You certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable taking a sports water bottle to the office on a Monday morning, would you?
Get a dishwasher-safe water bottle if you intend to use the dishwasher to wash your water bottle.
What you should do when you buy a new filtered water bottle.
As soon as you buy your filtered water bottle, don’t start drinking from it immediately. Pour some clean water into it, shake it, and leave for some minutes. Pour out the water and leave the container for some time.
Now you can start using your filtered water bottle.
How To Change The Filter in Your Water Bottle
It’s a relatively easy thing to do.
- First, purchase the new replacement filter.
- Next, pour clean water into the new filter for about 15 seconds. You can do this on your kitchen sink.
- Put remove the filter inside the bottle and replace it with the new filter.
- Fill the water bottle with water and allow it to sit for some minutes.
- Then squeeze all the water out.
Your water bottle is now ready for use, waiting to quench your thirst, your location notwithstanding.

Save more, drink water more.
